About Me
Linda Romero, CALT

Hi, I'm Linda! I am a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) nationally credentialed by the Academic Language Therapy Association (ALTA). My own journey through dyscalculia has given me a unique perspective on the individual learning struggles my students face, as well as invaluable self-advocacy skills that I try to instill in all my students.

I excelled in reading, writing, and spelling in school, but I struggled in 7th grade math. I had to repeat the year and witnessed friends moving ahead of me. It wasn't until I was 22 that I was diagnosed with dyscalculia, a type of dyslexia related to number concepts. That’s why I try to meet each child where they are as I get to know them.

To help my students build the confidence they often lack, I teach with a "move as fast as we can, but as slow as we must" approach. The focus is to build strong relationships with families, and make sure each student is at the heart of each lesson I teach.

Frequently Asked Questions
Find Out More About Bright Minds Read

How can Bright Minds Read help my child?
Bright Minds Read provides individualized, structured, and multisensory instruction to help students with dyslexia develop essential reading, writing, and language skills.

What is multisensory teaching?
The Orton-Gillingham multisensory teaching approach was developed by Dr. Samuel Orton and Anna Gillingham. This method focuses on learning using our senses; mostly auditory, visual, and kinesthetic discovery in order to provide the best instruction to children struggling with dyslexia.

What curriculum is used?
There are numerous curricula based on the Orton-Gillingham multisensory teaching approach. Neuhaus materials are mostly used by Bright Minds Read, however, other related components are used as students advance in the curriculum.

What is the cost per session?
Cost per session varies depending on which curriculum your child begins in. A session of the Kindergarten-level curriculum is approximately 30 minutes. A session of more advanced language skills runs 50-60 minutes and is tailored to grades 1-12. Bright Minds Read has a current individual hourly rate of $45/hr and is willing to work on a sliding scale.

Do you work 1:1 or in small groups?
While Linda does have experience working with small groups, the demand in her private practice setting has been for individualized instruction in order to help bridge the gap between classroom small group instruction and 1:1 therapy. Therefore, Linda generally carries a tight schedule with a very limited number of students during after-school hours.

Does my child need to have already been tested by an Educational Diagnostician in order to begin services?
No. A child can be referred by a parent/guardian or under the advice of another educational professional or licensed evaluator. Linda will conduct her own evaluation in order to determine where to begin actively teaching each child.

Can Linda diagnose my child for dyslexia or other language-based disabilities?
No. Linda is not licensed to conduct educational evaluations at this time. She is a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT), nationally accredited by the Academic Language Therapy Association (ALTA).
